The benefits of bio-identical hormones

I’ve been on hormone replacement for years, not just hormone replacement but bioidentical hormones. My practitioner, an expert on new and non-conventional ways of approaching aging performs a variety of tests on a regular basis, then matches my body’s needs and the bioidentical hormones she prescribes, in other words, she replaces what’s absent with something that’s been manufactured but is bioidentical. Bioidentical hormones duplicate the structure of our hormones exactly as they are found in our bodies, they are identical in their molecular shape, makeup, and structure to hormones made in the human body. Every individual is different in how hormones are replaced and what each individual needs can be ascertained through a series of tests. This is why they work better in our bodies than hormones made from conjugated mare urine. Testing is done through saliva, blood or in some cases urine testing. For me, bioidentical hormones have helped boost my mood, mental acuity, overall well-being, kept my breasts nice and perky, my skin youthful, my hair lustrous, and, best of all, my libio strong and responsive. I once heard someone say when talking about bioidentical hormones that you can tell by a room filled with menopausal women who’s on bioidenticals by how she responds to the introduction of a virile man into the room.

If you think bioidenticals might be for you , it is important to know not all doctors even the best gynecologist are aware of bioidentical hormones, gynecologists and other specialists may not know the difference between non-bioidentical and bioidentical hormones. That is why it is so important to make sure your practitioner is schooled in such matters. Initially, it may take three to four months to properly balance out your hormones levels, which is done through a combination of trial and error and ongoing testing. Your doctor may question you about how you feel, noticeable physiological and psychological changes and once you seem to be in balance they should test you every six months to adjust as needed.. In order to maximize the effects of bioidenticals there are other factors you should take into account, for instance, you want to make sure you are not eating foods laden with pesticides, or applying creams to your body or are being exposed to cleaning products which may have substances that alter your body chemistry. These chemical products contain ingredients that are known to mimic estrogen in the body. Some ingredients in body care products may cause estrogen dominance –soaps, creams for the body, makeup, even shampoo may have these mimics, so please read the label before using. If you find any of these substances you may want to replace your current makeup, perfume, face and body cleansers with organic non toxic products, Suzanne Somers offers a great selection of products.

In addition to organic beauty products, I eat only organic, non-GMO foods partly to help regulate my hormone levels, pesticides in our food will impact your hormone balance. Not to mention the added hormones in non-organic meats, eggs, etc. Organic all the way for me. Yes, it’s expensive but I am worth it and so are you. Besides, getting sick is a whole lot more expensive. You know what they say, an ounce of prevention….The world these days teems with toxins and for me and my family I try the best I can to keep our bodies working properly and free of things like added hormones,  chemicals or pesticides.

Let’s talk about sex for a moment. A healthy person is a sexual person and I am very healthy. My healthy libido makes for a happy and bonding relationship with my partner. No reaching for that chemical lube before sex, can you imagine the chemicals in that !!!
The bioidentical hormones I use are transdermal creams purchased from a compound pharmacy not far from where I live. They also come in pellets, but  my doctor prefers the cream because removing them and changing dosages can be difficult. But the pellets, do have their advantages, especially for those who  travel a lot through multiple time zones. They are released when needed. I read somewhere about a woman who used an epipen for her hormones and claimed she got cancer by using the epipen for her bioidentical hormones, whatever she was taking it was definitely not bioidentical hormones. You would never inject your bio identical hormones.  There are a lot of myths so you need to read everything you can get your hands on, ask questions to a qualified doctor who is educated in bioidentical hormone replacement  and knows about you medical history. A good place to begin for those who aren’t sure if it is time to start bioidentical hormones is the book by Suzanne Somers called I’m Too Young for This. –Or her other book. The Sexy Years ,-there is a lot of info and  in back of her books there is a section on where to go, what to ask, who to ask, in finding a specialist knowledgeable about replacing your hormones with bioidentical hormons or go to the website, ForeverHealth.com–.
